Preparing the site

We burned tobacco on the future site of our home and offered our greetings to all parts of creation that enable us to be here. We are very grateful for the land that will hold our home and grow the gardens that will feed our family. The beautiful oak in the picture on the right will provide the view from our kitchen window.

We eagerly finished clearing the land in the spring so that we could begin construction as soon as possible and aim to close in the house by October. We carefully selected the location and orientation of the house to work with the passive solar design.

Will stands on the mound of fill surveying the site and wondering "what have I gotten myself into?!" It will be hard work and we will have to make a lot of sacrifices but it will be worth every effort!
